Y’all really don’t get it. Realistically, yes, less software engineers will be needed and hired. So yes. Job layoffs, job cut offs, less people being hired, expect that in the next ten years. However, realize this. If you get in before all of that, are able to get a junior position and continue to move up, you may have a shot at a mid level job and showcasing your skill set will be important. You thought this job was already competitive, it’s about to get 10x more competitive. Will it replace coders entirely, not in our lifetimes I’ll say. If it does it’ll be when your all retired. Make what you can now and have a back plan just in case, set yourselves up and use analysis and data to set yourself up right moving forward, I’d say in ten years is when all the demands will go down, we won’t need as many coders. To each their own, this is my opinion and is subject to change at a moments notice when given new info, data, or research. Plus these times can be unpredictable in terms of job availability, overall market conditions, and salary levels. The tech industry is vast and wide, cyber security and other positions compared to this are more secure, safer and will be in higher demand , in theory AI could even run other levels of tech but thats dependent on if humans would want to enable that, or would they rather keep it to using humans instead if it proved to be more efficient and capable, at the very least, we knew the very technology we would go on to create, would be the same techno fly that would replace our jobs or at the very least 50/50. Meaning, I believe whatever the tech jobs are now, I believe in 30-40 years it’ll be half that amount or more, we may see 75% less then we have today. However the best coders will stay around to manage, create, and expand on what the foundation is, fundamentally building upon it.
