Geoffrey Hinton sounds like a very left wing communist. He's unsure about Sam Altman who made Open AI a for profit company instead of keeping it non-profit. Then criticizes Elon Musk who started Open AI to do exactly what his student Ilya Sutskever is doing to help control or limit AI tech. He seems brainwashed by the mainstream media's biased reporting. He said, “The things Elon said about full-self-driving were exaggerated, but full-self-driving Model-Y cars are currently doing ride hailing in Austin Texas right now and Robotaxis will launch there on June 22, so Geoffrey obviously doesn’t know what he is talking about regarding full-self-driving. Over 6 million Tesla cars worldwide run Tesla’s broader Autopilot and safety software stack; this includes FSD-capable vehicles. About 2 million Tesla cars in the U.S. are currently equipped with Tesla’s Full Self‑Driving (FSD) software, based on Tesla AI manager Paril Jain’s LinkedIn update from March 2024. These vehicles have access to FSD features (some functionality), but the system still requires driver supervision. Tesla considers v12 FSD a “supervised” system, no longer in beta. As of early 2025, the FSD Beta program includes hundreds of thousands of drivers—likely between 100k and 400k globally. These users are logging real-world supervised driving miles; Tesla’s database shows they collectively contributed over 3 billion miles on Autopilot/FSD by early 2025. Tesla has 7.75 million cars on the road worldwide. Tesla will have produced 2.2 million to 2,4 million vehicles by the end of 2025 and that number will only increase moving into the future. Obviously no one wants to be controlled by AI, but we also don't want to be controlled by dictators either, no matter their political ideology. Some regulation can be beneficial, but over regulation can cause just as much damage as under regulation or no regulation. I also really don't believe that if he is friends with Ilya Sutskever and he has dinner with him and his parents regularly that they have not discussed in detail Ilya's time at OpenAI and why he left. He just doesn't want to air that dirty laundry on a podcast on YouTube and risk making enemies or getting sued.
