I agree with most points you bring up, and agree that writing a prompt isn't making art. However I don't agree that AIs steal work. its not theft, it's more just drawing from reference. It's not creative, it's not what I would consider good art, but I think stealing is a misleading word in this scenario. The AI "artists" aren't actual artists. It's like telling an artist to draw something and taking the credit for it. Like if you told Picasso to draw a picture would you then get the recognition for it? Obviously not. You haven't done anything but tell the artist to do something. Does this mean generative AIs are artists? Maybe, but I wouldn't call it that as there is no intelligence involved. It's a program and an algorithm. So in my mind there is no artists involved in the making of AI images, but the AI isn't stealing either, it's only drawing from reference in an uncreative way.
