There's this quote about AI art (in any form not just visual arts) that sums it up perfectly: "If you didn't bother to make it, why should I bother read it?" AI is an imitation of human intention, it doesn't produce out of any meaning of its own. Human art is riddled with human efforts of understanding and critical thinking, and as Lavender mentioned, our art is entangled with every essence of us, from the conscious to unconscious. AI mimics this without actually creating it, more akin to taking screenshots and amalgamating them together in Photoshop. We come to art for human expression and purpose conveyed meaningfully and expertly, and AI doesn't give that. I do however understand people wanting to use it as reference or as a tool in the creative process, like if we want styles and influences that we fail to find in human-made art on our own. 3 main things about this, in no particular order: 1) May AI products never be directly used in your art- you can be inspired of course, and please adapt things where possible (like using an exact line or quote that AI came up with, should you really use it word-for-word when it's not an attempt born from your own critical thinking. You can definitely use its theme or something similar). But imitating something exactly is understandable if you're a beginner learning the ropes. 2) AI can be bad reference material occasionally so I implore you to try your best to find human-made references. This was what was mentioned in the video 3) AI has terrible environmental impacts, so it's not like our AI art truly has a cheap price tag and untethered from any tangible implications. It is costly to the environment Last thing! Many humans can create art equally as well, if not better, than AI. We should support these artists and appreciate them even more than we appreciate AI.
