I find that when it comes to "referencing" Ai it's easier to use it for moodboards. For example, a couple years ago I was working on a book and the start of the book opens up with 2 scenes being based around the idea of a scifi type world built upon the ruins of the old world. However this is an image in my head I just couldn't quite capture on paper or find good references for that included the weather and mood so I turned to AI and had some images created. Now this was the stages where AI couldn't create anything cohesive and was kind of hard to understand what you would be looking at but it helped me better create that "mood" I was going for. Apart from that the only things I could really take from the image is like "oh I like how this weird shape is placed here in the scene. Maybe I'll use the placement to put some old broken pipes there or something"
