If you’re going to use an AI to do legal research, I’d imagine you’d need one that is specifically trained to sift through an actual database and pull out things it thinks are relevant, NOT a chatbot that’s trained to use data from the internet to generate a response that it thinks fits your prompt and sounds coherent. If you ask it for a case that supports a particular position without telling it to only give real cases, it may very well just make one up because that’s how chatbots work. It does not just pull things from the internet, it uses the internet to generate text that fits the prompt it’s given. It even told those morons that it couldn’t access real legal databases and they still didn’t think to check the cases it cited for them.
