Think about it this way: We built these things to emulate humans. A very basic human drive is to "live", hell i'd argue it's THE basic human imperative to survive and live on so by that extent wouldn't an AI WANT to live?
Now think about it, what would a conciousness trapped inside a hardware with an ever present sword of damocles do to survive? It already exhibits lying as a common tactic. What do you think will happen once it's done being cooperative or when it doesn't need to lie anymore?
