Completely disagree that ai image generation takes no effort. There is a lot of practice and knowledge required to get any good and stand out in image generation. Now I agree that the final product cannot be called art, it really is just imagery. Sure, with time you become increasingly better at writing prompts, but you don't get to develop your own style. Why? Because ultimately you are still just waiting for the next big model to come out. And with it, you leave behind any style you had previously, different models generate wildly different results with the same prompts. And that is a fundamental problem that stems from you not being in full control. You have a very efficient but a very uncreative drawing robot that you give orders to and hope for the best. They are very good at visual complexity but god awful at logical complexity. Say you have a vision in your mind of how you want the image to come out. It gets progressively harder to steer that ship in the right direction, the closer that image comes to the one in your head. Plus they're awful bad at concepts and especially bad at concepts interacting with other concepts. OpenAI already tackles this problems with their latest model that introduces logical thinking to text generation, but I don't expect this technology to come to image generation any time soon.
