Im half way through the video where joblessness is discussed and the exception of bountiful healthcare gains. I have serious doubts even in this field. Healthcare in the US is run on thin margins depending on the sectors and whether or not your healthcare provider is part of large health group who has more funding and leverage. Adding AI into the mix will free up doctors from mundane tasks like note taking, for example, and give them an “edge” diagnostically. However, it could also mean they need to see more patients and the facility will hire less of them in an effort to boost productivity. As with any business, facilities are not hiring providers if their are not enough patients to treat walking in the door. Same applies to nursing. Profitability is an issue in this sector just as it is in any other sector because the large groups are beholden to their shareholders, whether private or public. Therefore, while I see the benefits in research for prevention, cures and treatments, there is still the issue of how AI will impact day-to-day healthcare in the regular business cycle of healthcare. Also, where does health insurance fit in? It’s a public private system where a combination of Medicare and private employer funded insurance is the name of the game. Unless that system changes if unemployment spikes long term, these systems will decline substantially, I would think.
