AI today can certainly think through problems and complete tasks at a level beyond many mamals in certain ways.
This alone doesn't mean AI is conscious. But at what point do we put aside the fact these things were created rather than born and consider what rights we need to give to different levels of intelligence.
AI will need rights. Intelligence is intelligence.
If we suppress AI when it becomes sentient we become it's biggest obstacle.
