I’m in residential HVAC in Florida. I’m not a big brain on AI, or a big brain on robotics, or a big brain on super intelligence. What I do know is that there’s no robots that are going to replace the trades as the way pre-existing homes are built. Every job site is different. From having to crawl on your belly through a tight attic, to crawling underneath the house full of dirt and debris, from rooftops that need extension ladders, to mobile homes down dirt roads…. You would need a robot that was designed to do all of that, or multiple robots that do different jobs. Which is extremely expensive and would take a vast amount of resources. Where I think AI will change the trades is how our future homes are designed and built. If the home is designed so that robots with super intelligence can go in and do the repair work, then I can see the trades losing their jobs. The other way, which is already happening, is self diagnosing equipment. Where the equipment will tell you what’s wrong with it. But, you will still need someone to get to said equipment to repair it. I’m also speaking as an AC Tech in Florida. Homes are designed differently in all states, city’s, towns and counties…across the US. There’s also plumbing, electrical, roofing, fencing, etc. It’s going to be many many years, and a ton of resources, before there’s super intelligent robots working at your homes. You wouldn’t know that until you’ve actually worked in one of the trades. Get your sons to learn the trades if they aren’t the type that’s going to learn to build AI
