This is just a re-tread of automation. Except where it was easy to ignore the consequences of automation because you didn't live in the rust belt, AI theoretically can shrink your headcount from 100 people down to like 10. And companies treat competition like you just politely asked them to eat your bowel movements. And of course you can wander around West Virginia to see the consequences of having the economic drivers of your region destroyed.
And yeah, the fact that AI companies keep lines in their terms of service dictating that if they get sued for content you produce, you're functionally getting sued.... they understand that what they're doing is theft. It will be interesting to see what the courts devise as a measuring stick for the boundary between inspiration and outright theft but if the courts follow existing precedent, they're going to fall in favor of intellectual property holders, not the guy who wants a computer to draw Mario gooning to Yoshi in the style of Hayao Miyazaki.
