I feel like what we're really losing here is the future where automation is beneficial for society. I understand why the (broadly speaking) left has entrenched itself in the position that automation must be seen with suspicion, but the reason for that isn't the automation, it's the brokers hoarding the means of production (as it has been since the birth of capitalism). Increased automation has the ability to make so many people's lives better by doing terrible jobs for us; the problem is that if we let that happen in our current system, the increased profits will go straight to the capitalists and not the people who are replaced.
I understand why it's easier to just say "oppose automation", but I fear we lose something when we don't include the caveat that the problem is the distribution of wealth, not the automation itself
