I think this is a good thing. I'll keep my post brief, but feel free to engage me if you want a deeper discussion on this topic. Automation is a fantastic innovation that will allow greater productivity and less worker harm and stress. What I think is the productive way to harness all the negative feelings about automation and job replacement is to take that sentiment and restructure the way we distribute the fruits of productivity. We ought to take the significant political power that we have as workers and use that to apply pressure so that everyone can benefit from productivity rather than a trickle down from board members and CEOs.
I feel like every huge new bit of technology follows the same pattern: innovation leads to change, leads to growth of productivity, leads to increase in living standards, leads to wealth for some but ruin for others. Let's work to make sure that we avoid ruining those who are replaced while still harnessing the benefits of technology.
