I actually don't think we would but that's besides the point. A broader counterargument would be that our caring about the ants itself is a form of misalignment from what evolution via natural selection "wanted" us to think. We got empathy to apply it to our tribe, which helped increase our own inclusive genetic fitness. The fact that there are people out there caring for the wellbeing of animals for its own sake, is in a sense a perversion of nature. I, for one, love it. I love that we are as compassionate as we are, I love that we care about the things we do. (An of course I would, lol). But an AI's value system would be as large a perversion of our own, as our values are to the narrow goal of optimizing for inclusive genetic fitness.
