Why would "each person own a self driving car?" Privately owned cars spend 90+% of the time parked, that is serving nobody but taking up space in cities. This is sn absurdity we cannot afford in cities and cars are now being priced accordingly. Car USERS and not taxpayers need to pay 95% of the cost of cars (including health, safety, lawsuits, funerals, destroyed watersheds, enforcement, storage, production, waste stream). If these externalities were priced, then privately owned cars would become a rarity within a decade or two.
Thank you for pointing out the user experience of transit in LA. Politically and economically, it is not viable to tunnel in California UNTIL externalities of privately owned (taxpayer subsidized) cars are priced.
