I have 3 friends who are all artists that graduated from my countrys' Universities of Fine Arts. They studied for 4 years, learning all the mediums, picking their own favourite mediums when they were experienced enough (pencil, oil, ink). They studied all the classic artists - Da Vinci, Picasso, Michelangelo, Salvador Dali, M.C Escher, and others. They spent 4 years of studying + a lifetime of practice. And what is AI doing? Exactly the same. It just does it faster, more efficiently and without the possibility of human error, because it is a machine. For comparison, I studied Economics. In Statistics II and Statistics III, we learnt how do to multivariate regressions BY HAND. For those who don't know what that is, think of a statistical mathematical problem that needs around 2-3 pages of working out. And that was only with 2 variables and like 30 data points. You think we Economists do our regressions by HAND? Fuck that shit, this ain't the 1970's or 1980's. My Head of Department at University did all his regressions by hand. He was a 60-year old man. But us, the new generation? We have Eviews. We have Stata. We have MatLab. We have a PLETHORA of software that was developed so we DON'T need to run our regressions by hand. Do I know how to do them? Of course, I'm the one plugging in the data and the commands in the statistical software. Have I ever done one by hand after I graduated? Never. TL:DR, AI Art is doing nothing different than what we humans have been doing for centuries when it comes to art.
