The thing is they aren’t great at translations as people assume. I work in the industry and fixing AI translations for content which requires nuance often takes longer than translating from scratch. It might look good at first glance, but it prioritises sounding good over accuracy. It’s like the equivalent of using big words to mask a bad argument when nuance is required.
What’s more, they often rely on EN as pivot language to generate text in languages they have less data in. I even notice this when I “speak” to ChatGPT in Russian as it will use syntax which is clearly borrowed from English.
