I'm an artist, and I'm somewhat pro ai art except I think it's a bit aesthetically weird at this point in time, and it doesn't change things enough yet. and the reason I'm pro ai art is because with the machine learning stuff I recognize my own process of getting good at art, starting with copying and recombining, but not really minding because I knew I was saying something that was "me" with those stolen elements. I knew it wasn't right to sell or share those things because it was too 1 to 1. But I knew it was real art. It's like music, like remember that viral "canon in D" chords video? There's stylistic elements that build up your foundation as an artist that you are like supposed to be copying. I liked the idea of AI art because I thought it would demystify the process of getting good at art, and maybe make it more accessible to people with fine motor issues and stuff. I thought it would make people realize that they COULD do real art, and be less scared of picking up a pencil, because a machine is not talented, a machine just learns. A person is the same. A person is not talented, a person just learns. I started art in my late 20s. I have fine motor issues, and my answer to that was sticking to digital art for a long time, where you can undo a brush stroke as many times as it takes to get it right. Now I do watercolour realism, which is extremely forgiving for fine motor issues if you have the right kind of paper, because you don't have to aim your brush perfectly, you just have to aim for a puddle of water and know how the paint is gonna flow. That's exactly like AI art. You just have to aim for an idea and know how the computer is gonna take it. Doing real art will make you better at AI art if that's really what you wanna do. And I think doing AI art will make you better at real art. BUT. Only if it doesn't make you think you don't have the "blue blood," which is the biggest lie I ever heard of, it just takes good mentorship and the ability to practice, which I will admit is it's own privilege. But there is nothing wrong with you, you can do it. My beginner art from when I was in my 20s is soooo much worse than this video, and I do realism now, and I'm slowly branching into doing stylized stuff too. It is absolutely possible for you.
