When ChatGPT first came out, I was already impressed with it's code generating ability. Only the 'dreaming' and forgetting important details was a problem for me.
Nowadays I only use ChatGPT to get inspired. Or when I'm to lazy to Google and stick stuff together from three different sources.
Still I understand the code it gives me. It's on par with accepted answers on StackOverflow. But I never let it write too much code.
I imagine that it will get better and better over time. Could it replace me in five years? I guess not. In ten years? Probably.
Programmers are still needed to give proper prompts and to check the solutions it gives. I don't think that will change soon.
