Here’s the problem: there is a direct financial cost when a student fails a semester of university or college. I’m guessing that a lot of students turn to AI to ensure they don’t fail classes, to avoid the financial penalty of said failure. This problem existed before AI; it’s just become more prolific as the technology to cheat becomes more accessible. Nothing will change until the tertiary and higher education is valued as more than just a lucrative business. Education benefits society as a whole, whether you attended university or not. Education should be free, and ideally pursued for the love and desire for knowledge and growth, not “better job prospects”.
