I’m not a coder, but I’ve worked on very large software development programs in a support role and have some knowledge of the process. Software architects likely still have a long future ahead of them. However, 90% of people employed to code will either be replaced by AI or see their roles change within 3-5 years. The AI-driven coding you see today is the worst it will ever be. Soon, you’ll have an AI coding assistant or agent that will be just as raw as an intern. While you’ll still need to train and develop it, it will work 24/7 and eventually be able to perform everything a typical coder does. Those with coding experience will still be needed but will likely see their roles change to more of a requirement verification QA role. I think the AI the public is aware of now is just scratching the surface of what’s to come. It’s like comparing a calculator from 1975 to an iPhone. The only difference is this is going to happen much faster than any previous technology. The support systems are already in existence so as soon as the technology develops it can be put into mass adoption
