I ask you this: If AI takes all the jobs and only the CEOs profit from it, how are the poor supposed to earn money? I have a friend with a different worldview. He said, "We will get UBI (Universal Basic Income) when all jobs are replaced by robots." I asked, "Who is going to fund it? Because it’s not going to be the billionaires replacing us to save money." He replied, "No, the governments, of course." Then I asked, "Well, where is the money coming from to pay the government to fund the people if the rich don’t pay taxes?" He said, "Taxes, of course, by the people, for the people." I said, "How the fck are people going to pay taxes if they have no money because they’ve been replaced?" If AI replaces most jobs and wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a few, funding a Universal Basic Income (UBI) without taxation from the rich seems impossible. Even if the ultra-rich are taxed heavily, they make up such a tiny percentage of the population (about 1%), while the rest (99%) would need UBI. That’s a massive imbalance. Why would billionaires willingly fund the very people they’re actively replacing? They didn’t compensate artists when AI models were trained on stolen art. They didnt pay writers when AI started generating content using their work. So why would they suddenly feel generous when AI takes over all jobs? There’s a gap in the logic of assuming "UBI will just happen." As for the idea that companies need consumers = maybe true, but history shows billionaires prioritize short-term profit over long-term economic balance. If AI takes over most jobs, companies could just shift to selling to governments or each other, reducing their reliance on everyday consumers. Even if everyone on earth gets something like UBI( universal basic income). Then people wouldn't be able to climb any sort of economic ladder, meaning that only those in power of AI will be able to climb higher on that ladder. The top 1% already owns enough to free half of earth's population from poverty. If "post labour economics" can exist in the furture? Then why don't we just do it now? Well those in power certainly have the money for salvation. But that isnt happening. The rising imballance right now in reality should tell you everything you need to know that such thing as "post labour economics" and UBI isn't happening. If we have the power and wealth do to it now in an instant, but don't do it, then i dont see it ever happening. And no this comment wasnt written by an AI. or maybe it was you say "thats what an AI would say". then you have pointed out the issue yourself. If no human can connect to other humans anymore because the gab in distrust rises becuase of AI. Then we will eventually live in a world where human connection is shut down, meaning no one is informed, and no one can create unions or protest. Citizen loosing critical thinking, loosing connection, loosing grib on whats real, fake and propoganda, Thats the end goal for total power. ps- it seems like many people seem to have the outdated understanding that governments are just printing money. We have already entered technofeudalism and killed capitalism. It doesn’t run on money, but cloud and data. Yes money can still be printed, but increasingly less, we are now living in a digital era where the products are not so much about the goods consumers buy, but humans and their data are the product. The wealthy doesn’t really just sell products anymore, they sell data. You the consumer aren’t buying a product, you are the product of free unpaid labour whenever you use media. Billionaires don’t have billions of cash, they have billions of dollars "worth" of investment in digital data, that is you. Cloud and your data is the new capital and investment. So yes there is still a bit of traditional "money printing left", BUT it is diminishing, that’s why we move away from cash to digitalisation, so monopoly of data can take over.
