A relative of mine climbed into the new Renault Truck the company he works for had bought.
He set off with a load to deliver. The route to the destination involved a country lane. He started off down the country lane and came across an almost full L bend. He started into the bend with no traffic obstructions, either coming towards him or in front, heading the same direction. He was steering the truck round the bend when, suddenly the on board AI slammed on the brakes full. The braking was so strong he nearly broke some ribs. What happened? The lorry saw a large tree in front of it as it was going round the bend. Of course the tree was in the hedgerow and of no danger to the lorry. My relative told me it took him a good few seconds to actually l breathe again and immediately looked in his rear view mirror to see if anything had rear ended him, especially a small car, but luckily there was nothing behind him. Had there been, the driver would not have avoided a collision very easily.
AI cannot be trusted and can cause serious accidents. People need to be ultimately in control of vehicles and not computer software.
