I don’t think it’s irrelevant how AI manages to create “art” that’s indistinguishable from human-made work from a technical standpoint. Is what it produces really something new? There are fan-made drawings of Mickey Mouse, after all. The debate over whether it’s art or not is just as hard as trying to define what art is. And the models already exist — damage (if we want to see it that way) is already done.
I’m not defending AI; I think that to fully discuss this ethical dilemma, we have to understand how it actually works. (I don't)😅
There’s also a gray area — people who use AI to replicate what it does through analog and “organic” methods. Still, making art without AI’s help should undoubtedly make it more valuable to us, especially since even the same companies that exploit us rely on it.
AI should be free; companies shouldn’t be allowed to profit from our data.
