It is happening. Multiple factors are converging for countries on the other side of trump's idiocy and those factors squeeze the company's bottom line encouraging cost saving through redundancy of mid level white collar staff.
Imagine you are 40 and have been at a company for several years getting a reasonable wage. You have a mortgage and are starting a family. Suddenly the company you work for is facing margin pressures, tariffs and uncertainty loom supply chains are disrupted interest rates rise due to inflation fears which also hurts the business and at the same time ai seems to make that you a financial liability.
Now multiply that situation by tens of thousands and you have problems because what happens to the demand side of the economy? Are the ai companies selling human irrelevance. At least where I am from we don't have any ideological barrier to giving people money but the US does. They don’t even want to provide health care.
