Fun idea. As cats are one of the most common house-pets, we could gather audio and video data on cats meows, behavior and actions and what on average it is they want to achieve when interacting with us like begging for food, doesn't like being pet a certain way yadayada- then be able to use ai to translate, and even respond with a coherent response. If there was enough data, surely it could function to some extent?
Mayhaps the same could be done with bird-song, translating tweets on the fly- and play certain tweets back to "converse". Like "Hey, I have food to share.", or "Don't come here, danger here."
