I've been describing the prime directive of ChatGPT as if it's being asked to "predict what a smart person who knows about this topic would say if given this particular prompt". This is actually something that we humans do all the time. The difference is that while we have the capacity to speak the language and sounds like we know what we're talking about, we also have the capacity to (sometimes) know what we're talking about. ChatGPT has the ability to do the first, but not the second.
