The reason for that is that on a purely statistical basis, men will work longer. If a women plans on getting pregnant, then they have paid maternal leave in almost every state in the US, and then they have sick leave, personal days, etc as men do as well. Based on this, an AI would totally exclude women because they could just leave for months with pay cause they gave birth. This is also the reason why a interviewer is not allowed to ask a woman if they’re planning to have a baby, and why the answer to that should always be, “I would prefer to talk about the job and the work I’d be doing”.
