Freelancer web designer here: new to being freelance and new-ish to web design BUT also an older human. This pretty much confirms what I have been thinking and experiencing in my very small time, small world experience in this. I'm using AI for a bunch of stuff as an assistant and business advisor, strategist etc which has helped immensely - far beyond it's subscription price, but I am also using experience from a variety of other real world roles to kind of appeal to other humans with a kind of brand consultant and UX/UI person incorporated into web design for clients . They seem to be appreciating the advice & guidance and opinion pieces to sanity check their ideas. And they're very much still people who like to buy from people. I don't think that will ever fade. It might even be accentuated in the increasingly AI driven world. Everyone knows AI generated slop when they see it, and no-one appreciates it like human crafted work.
As another video on this pointed out on this topic: AI will probably kill off roles for lazy web designers. Probably the same in other design spaces too. So don't be lazy :)
