If I'm an autistic writer, does that fit your disabled artist criteria? Because I'd never touch AI of any kind and am often extremely vocal about my opposition to it. Partly out of ethical considerations - mostly, honestly - but also partly because I know it's going to do the opposite of what I want my work to do. What I write often centers autistic experiences and even when I'm not writing autistic characters, tends to carry themes of social alienation and feeling out of step with mainstream society - two things that the average autistic person probably knows very well. I'm also frequently a sci-fi, horror and fantasy writer, but when I write fantasy, I deliberately steer away from the typical medieval European flavor of it because, quite frankly, I'm kinda bored of it and find that most fantasy fits that feel to the point where I find that flavor kind of generic. If I asked ChatGPT for anything related to autism, it'd give me stuff that prioritizes a neurotypical view of autism because that's what it's been fed. People have tried this, and often the stuff it comes up with is riddled with the same issues as we have with often terrible autistic representation. That sort of thing is incompatible with the goals and intents of my work and would wind up producing the exact kind of thing I'm deliberately trying to move away from if I leaned on it too hard. Same with fantasy. If I tried to ask it for plot ideas for a fantasy novel, almost certainly anything it would give me is going to be something that's not built with consideration for the setting and style I'm working in. It's likely to be totally useless to me at best. And also, why do I need AI to help me with these things? I can come up with a decent idea in the middle of a warm shower, and if I get stuck on a scene or idea, resolving that is part of the fun part of writing. If I'm irrevocably stuck, it means I need to revisit the purpose of the scene and ask if I can't accomplish what I'm trying to better in some other way. Every possible use I could have for AI it seems like it's something I could do better myself.
