I live in Pittsburgh area. It is notoriously hilly, and just endless traffic oddities due to the small, winding streets, all over the area. I'm a utility sub contrator "meter reader" who has driven to hundreds of thousands of buildings, in the area, the last 16 years. I observed the driverless cars attempting to navigate our area streets, they fail. So terrain and lack of perfectly drivable streets, defeats, at present, our robotic driven vehicles. Period, no arguing this, if you drive the current roads in the difficult streets and terrain, and snow, and other traffic situations, particularly "road work," trees down from wind, and road debris. Robot vehicles are defeated, where human drivers know how to drive OFF the road, which has to be done, at times. In southwestern Pennsylvania there are just a majority NON GUARD RAIL smaller country roads, where two cars coming at one another, both have to put their tires off the road, to let each other, or one lets the other, pass. I as a daily driver, all streets, where buildings have utility meters which I read with my car's meter reading equipment, I see it every day. ---------------------------------- Robot vehicles can only function on "non tricky" road surfaces, they are defeated by bad roads, and the temporary road conditions that occur weekly, in the vast majority of roads. Conclusion: Robot vehicles are defeated by the road system, and recurring traffic road debris and road work conditions that happen over and over.
