Although a valiant attempt, IMO this episode wasn't the complete and authoritative answer most videos in this channel are. IMO it's a critical omission to not differentiate between semi-autonomous and fully autonomous systems. Semi-autonomous systems will become commonplace first in the military and in our civilian lives as automated options but are initiated by a master piece of software or by a human action. The US in particular has long emphasized that it deploys no fully autonomous systems and that a human is always involved in the kill chain to avoid some science fiction destruction of the world by automatons. AFAIK no other country has made a similar statement but probably only China and Russia have both the destructive power as well as the technological capability to build an AI that might decide to end the world. At this moment in time, only the US has the near term capability to develop and build sophisticated AI. Russia lacks resources and hasn't demonstrateed any systems publicly that could even be called first steps to building a sophisticated AI. China easily has the skills and monetary resources to build a sophisticated AI every bit as capable as the US but due to sanctions is slowed by lack of access to advanced computing power. This does not mean that China isn't capable of building a very sophisticated AI, it just means that it will liikely take longer. Whether that results in a less capable AI than the US is anyone's guess but chances are against and the difference might not make a significant difference. All that said, Fully autonomous systems will be common one day. We will not see the amusing human commands by Captain Kirk leading the Enterprise when in the time he says "Make it so" that the Enterprise should be blown up already by any advanced adversary. Vessels and vehicles will have lives of their own acting on their own. In fact, the current US marine Manta drone is envisioned to perform this way, left to operate on its own, self sustaining and moving about without human directives. On this very important topic of autonomous systems, we will be granting creations lives of their own. To what degree we endow them with the power to decide what to do on their own can be important in each case and like humans our creations can be expected to make mistakes.
