All it takes to squelch most AI usage is for current U.S. copyright law to be enforced. Because that copyright law is clear: AI-created works CANNOT be copyrighted, as the recent federal court ruling in the Thaler v. Perlmutter case upheld, a decision entirely in keeping with established copyright law and prior legal rulings.
The only way AI output can be copyrighted is if it is substantially transformed by a human, and such transformation requires more than just editing a few lines of an AI-generated script or adding some brush strokes to an AI-generated painting. And even then, only the changes made by a human to an AI work can be copyrighted; the remainder of the work cannot because it was not created by a human. So the only way an AI-written script could be full copyrighted is if a human rewrote every single sentence of that script.
It doesn't matter if other countries allow AI-generated works to be copyrighted, because they would not be copyrightable in the U.S., meaning that AI work would be public domain in the United States and thus earning revenue from it difficult.
