I cannot imagine personally investing in an AI companionship...
But I heard nothing about the criticisms about its potential for adverse outcomes that reflects anything different than what could happen in relationships with those human flesh.
Most pointedly - everything is relative. The measure of loneliness experienced by people in society is completely underestimated. And one need not be living in a house or a farm miles from their neighbor to feel lonely. If someone is struggling with depression from loneliness and a plausible outlet is an AI companion... I would suggest it should not be categorically denounced as inappropriate.
