Life expectancy went way up because we wiped out a ton of diseases killing young children. (Which is why RFK is so dangerous.) There weren't a lot of people dying at 30 before then. I feel like he knows this, but that part was presented in a misleading way.
Humans do have a hard time understanding exponential growth, but this goes both ways. We overestimate how much something will change the world all the time... we just don't remember all the times we were wrong. AGI doesn't exist and isn't going to anytime soon. "AI" has become a marketing term for algorithms of all kinds, because it tricks people into thinking AGI is on the horizon. Obviously algorithms and computers are very useful, but that's not new information. They're continuing to get faster and more powerful, as they have for decades.
I don't know how much "generative AI" will change the world. Anyone who says they know is probably trying to sell you something.
