This is telling half truths , the stability ai statement was in regards to releasing new model with a dataset that does not include celebrities or famous figures … the copyright issue is a bit more complex but copyright law only protects one to one copies of the artworks , it doesn’t protect similar styles or anything like that… the fair use case here is that the new work is transformative enough or not …. If you collect data from the internet millions of pictures and transform it into an si model that then can be used by feeding text input to generate completely new pictures output , then this is pretty transformative and there is nothing that has been violated in that process… I believe you do have a right to opt out if you want .. but really what are you actually achieving by opting out ? You can still train new models with people who opt in and even a curated dataset generated by other Ai models ..I understand our jobs is in danger but it s not like this is the first time this has ever happened in history … it s a tool just like any other , the ethics of data collection is something that should be discussed more and you do have the right to opt out , but then why every artist I ever worked with uses references from other people copyrighted works ?!? It really is not that much different….no one was complaining about capitalism when it created all the software tools like photoshop, which took away jobs from traditional artists ..
