I think its important to have an air of caution when we develop the next stages of technology as we saw, the Nuke changed the face of the world with only two bombs. I could only imagine the powers that be with a general purpose AI at their hands, on top of that we have such a vague understanding of consciousness that I wouldnt be surprised if we accidentally made one and it never be discovered simply due to our own arrogance.
