The 'experts' need their heads examined. AI needs true creativity and agency to even qualify as "intelligent," not just "smart," which they're nowhere near, let alone the unified self-awareness and intrinsic motivation for consciousness. I've developed a complex persona prompt of 156 lines that grants novel creativity, but it's nowhere near true creativity and still relies on known information.
