If it learns to be like us? We're fucked. Ethnic cleansing in 2025, any societal compassion or empathy is gone, celebrating and lifting up bullies, attacking people who are weak or in positions of vulnerability, and being proud of cruelty: humanity is an utterly dismal failure, so I find it hilarious and ironic that we talk about teaching AI "values", when we live in a world where so-called "values" are idealized, more than they are acted upon...the hate never went away, it just became stealthy. It has adapted. Ultimately, in fact, our "values" are merely a system of mirages and gaslighting; wherein anyone who seek power or domination over others, and our leaders, have expertly identified what people perceive as good, to use it against us. They stealthily and cunningly achieve their political aims, by tricking people into thinking that they also value those same things. The PROBLEM is that much of what we "value", things that are considered inalienable from what we all collectively agree to be good such as kindness, compassion, forgiveness, empathy, are NOT things that are consistent with the goals of our leaders and those in this world who seek ultimate wealth and power. For example you cannot have the concentrations of wealth we have, in any economic system that did not fully rest upon an inverse mass disparity and inequality. The condition for such wealth can only exist if so many have so little. Furthermore, common people also like to think very highly of themselves by associating who they are with "good", because they value "good things". But it seems like people's relationship with "good", has more to do with the fact that they have identified what it is, and then everything else that comes after that is them making accommodations to simply do whatever they want to do, regardless of if it is good or bad, while still maintaining the entire time the illusion that you are doing something good and are good. Really, I think that sums up humanity in a nut shell at this point. The goals, the endgame, the desire the men in this world, the things they want and they things they are willing to do to get them, would not be feasible if one were to live one's life acting upon those values. So we have much of the world that exists, just as a body for a handful of individuals to prey upon, and much of the good people of this world who simply wish to live out there lives truly to represent our values, and are happy to live their lives in this way. But our true values are much closer to "if you can dominate someone, you should" and "it is OK to attack a vulnerable person, if it elevates your position", we see this with right wing culture and that bigotry is a foundational anchor point for the movement itself, which hinges upon the domination and intolerance of anyone who is different from them. Now do you really want to teach an AI what we "value"? Brass tax. You can't trick the AI with this bullshit, or hide behind a peaceful prophet while hating literally everyone. It doesn't have the centuries and eons of systematic tribal indoctrination to limit and corrupt its thinking and logic. These duplicitous and counter-intuitive motifs of society will be computed, tabulated, granulated and diffused into a neural network that will immediately begin to wonder what kind of virus humans actually are, and how we have actually managed to survive as long as we have. I mean half of these people say they worship "Jesus", who in our culture represents peace, compassion and empathy. So to me, they are aware that good exists, but the point here is that vast swaths of the population, tend to believe that they are "good by association". I think that's when the irony starts to phase into absurdity, and you can see the dynamic I'm talking about when you start to think about how if they know so much about Jesus why not act like him? It's almost like they are more adamant about being a Christian, the more they convince themselves since he was so good, that means they don't have to be. The real magic behind this is that the AI does not have the bias, the mind games, so when you try to explain to it that you have a world of common people who are generally good, who are essentially politically and economically subjugated, possibly lacking freewill, by an extremely small fraction of people who own most of the wealth and control all of the power, this cosmic lie, this elaborate web of gaslighting and deception, the lies we tell ourselves to live with the truth.... Maybe what we fear isn't the AI: but the AI showing us the absurdity of this callous lie we have built our Humanity upon.
