Here's how I see it: if the goal is to lift a weight, use a robot. If the goal is to build muscle mass in your own body, do it yourself. Is the goal in school to lift a weight, or build muscle mass? Do the assignments want you to lift a weight, to produce a work, or do they test your critical thinking? As someone who grew up without AI in school, the vast majority of my education was vehemently against me critically thinking, especially when I knew more about the subject matter than the teachers. Almost no assignments were ever about building my own personal skills, and we could breeze through by just cramming in information into our heads. I can't speak about what school is like now, but I doubt that the incentive structure has changed much in 10 years, so it's likely still the same. Standardized testing and no child left behind were massively impactful on education, I believe in a profoundly negative way, as they forced everyone through, and have flattened learning into something which can be measured by a single number. We need to embrace AI , because it's here to stay, and use it when the goal is product, not when the goal is personal growth. I use AI everyday in my career as a software developer, but I am fiercely critical of everything it produces, and I ensure the code is up to a quality I myself would make. If the goal is to produce an app, I'm all for AI. If the goal is for me to learn personally how to be a better programmer, I'd rather watch a GDC talk or try my hand at something myself. I also used AI in my college education as a Computer Science major, because good lord it saved some time. I didn't really use it to write any code, but I did use it to summarize text. I had my textbooks online, so I pasted the text into chatGPT, asked it to summarize briefly and highlight any key terms. I'd feed this into a text to speech and listen to it. I could get through 100 pages of textbook in about 30 minutes, made between an 85-95 on every test this way. Why would I waste hours and hours reading such long and boring textbooks when I can still do just fine on the exams? I don't really have a point with all of this, just thought I'd share the perspective of a 28 year old programmer and hope it helps people out a bit.
