As a tech lead, I saw this change about two years ago and immediately started focusing on non-obvious paths like product management, sales, (obviously) agentic coding, and stakeholder cooperation. Now I'm ready for the AI shift, but what I was not expecting, I'm now not-hireable for obsolete corporate bulshit jobs because the market is way behind me, and they do not even look for such skills :D
What I'm observing now: high management and directors are dead scared of the shift. They mimic moves, do not want to talk about rapid changes - their goal is to look busy and keep their jobs. Conclusion? Obsolete, stale companies will die, but new ones will be created.
I'm already working afterhours on my own startup - job security is gone. Layoffs will speedup because of incompetent boomer management. They will fire the best, ambitious people and keep loyal ones, conserving the status quo... to look like they're doing sth.
