I think this is a good example of a situation where AI gen helped inspire. Admittedly it was more of a spiteful kind of inspiration, but by existing it inspired artists to make a bunch of very cool artworks based off of the AI generated one. I also think there's a difference between someone just slapping together a prompt and redoing the generation a few times until they get one and post it online, and someone who uses the AI as a tool and edits the generated image heavily. Artists aren't just the people who can draw things from scratch. Skillful editing and manipulation of images is an art in of itself as well. As someone who never could draw particularly well, but did learn how to pick up photo manipulation, I find huge value in the existence of AI generation as now I am not just limited to the images I find on google.
