Taking down social media accounts seems like the most feasible idea right now if you have one and are afraid of being a victim, and will probably stop amateur hackers dead in their tracks. As some internet archives might keep records (perhaps with pictures) of public profiles of common platforms, you can try to send deletion requests there too if necessary. If you require more thorough scrubbing, it's probably doomed, but there are companies out there that specialise in such matters I believe. As always, prevention is the best cure, so make sure to teach your kids that bad people exist and are out there, and to limit exposure to the internet where possible. Tangentially - Make no mistake: the detention of Pavel Durov in France was probably unrelated. There has been a ... rather sinister push for government surveillance (i.e. mandated spy software on all chat apps/phones/... and backdoors in encryption) in the European Union in recent years (have a look at the numerous Chat Control II proposals if you do not believe me - that chimaera just won't die), or look at their efforts to censor information on the internet - as they already do in person. Make no mistake, 'Freedom of Speech' as you Americans know it does not truly exist over here. It seems to me a bit naive to think this is anything but the public arrest of the CEO of a privacy-focused media platform for intimidation purposes. Make of that what you will. Also, I believe most do not truly understand the consequences of backdooring encryption - any backdoor 'for the safety of the children' will in fact also make it so every single picture you (or your children) ever send and/or receive is getting scanned by A.I., potentially flagged for manual review by cops, and potentially spread around. Cute selfie? Photo for the doctor? Sexting between teens - statistically proven to be the most likely content to be flagged by these systems? Bad luck - someone you didn't want to share it with now has it. On top of that, a backdoor for 1 entity must be considered as a backdoor for all, even the very ones you intended to protect your children from. Make no mistake, if a system such as this is ever implemented, all malicious actors in the world will be eying it at once. Any exploit against it could see every single picture going through the system being made public and effectively create an archive that would make these 'rooms' seem benign by comparison, a scary thought indeed.
