I graduated in 2005. Spent 15 years in prepress/desktop publishing as one of two alterations/graphic designers for approx. book printing 50 prepress techs, plus their telcoms/tech publishing wing. I lost that job to outsourcing to India. Now I'm an on staff art director/graphic designer for a small manufacturing company. There is no money and no future in this career. Things like Fiver have killed freelance, and I'm literally just waiting for my boss to figure out how to use AI to replace me in the current job. And even if he doesn't, I know I'll never be able to escape making $50-60k forever. I ACTIVELY PUSH PEOPLE AWAY FROM THIS CAREER PATH. Run... run far far away! Go be an engineer, or some other STEM field, go do something profitable.
It does't mater if AI is good, what matters is it is fast and accessable. History has shown how convenience trumps quality. CDs lost to MP3 which has now lost to Spotify. Bluray lost to Streaming. Wired peripherals lost to Bluetooth. Disposable vs Reusable goods....
