I don't hear many people talking about how AI art is SO far away from creating the actual textures, smells, unique processes by which artists produce art. All AI can do is re-create stuff by digital means or by 3D printing it. When artists create work, there are so many imperfections and elements from each person's environment embeded in the work. If you're making an oil painting in AZ, it's going to dry in a specific way... so many variables I just don't see AI doing any time soon... even down to the molecules embeded in the paint, fabric, paper, etc. Just go to a museum like the Art Institute of Chicago, you'll see so many large paintings, sculptures, or installations out of unique materials. Even when AI gets better at tricking us into thinking a human did it, it'll still be a trick (a gimmick), which WILL win over some people. However, not everyone will be into it 'cause it's just a trick of the eye with no real human emotion put into it. There's also the whole element of time (relating to humans creating art), that many people don't think about but it's really important on a psychological level. If you had two works of art that looked identical, and they were the same price, would you buy the AI created one or the one that took a human 100 hrs. to create? Many of us artists don't make much $ from the sales of our art anyway. We make work out necessity and passion. It's a way to communicate with other people and gives us self-worth. We'll still be making stuff no matter what. I also think our (old school traditional and organic) work will stand out even more in the future, so it's hard to predict how the art market and artists will be doing finacially in 10 years or so. Maybe when we "merge" with some kind of AI technology, then we'll see a giant revolution in art though.
