You cannot claim to have an *honest* discussion of a topic without actually giving time and effort to both sides of the issue. Where did you discuss the ethical issues of redistribution of wealth? Where did you even use that term? I can help there: you didn't, because when people use that term, it automatically brings the debate into the idea of giving people something for doing nothing. I've come from middle or low-middle class, worked hard in school and grad school, albeit with six figures of debt. Right now I'm still very much middle class, maybe slightly further ahead of where I gew up, but I hope to continue working hard to succeed. So please tell me, from an ethical standpoint, why you think it's OK to take money from my pocket and put it in the hands of my friend who chose to do heroin instead of going to college and then be content working a job beneath his skill levels indefinitely? Sure, there are poor people who probably cannot get out of poverty on their own. And yes, there are wealthy people who might not have "earned" their money themselves. But at the end of the day you're lumping together all the recipients, including millions who choose not to work to their potential, and you're lumping together all the "wealthy," including those who came from nothing and got where they are because of their wits, hard work, and willingness to take a risk. You are redistributing wealth by taking (again) from people who have money and giving it to those who did not earn it.
