This whole generative AI thing is just all around awful. Yes, people who don't want to put in any effort can "make" art, music, writing or whatever and feel good about themselves, but it comes at the cost of not being able to make a living for those who have dedicated thousands upon thousands of hours of their life to improving their skills within an artform. It's really no surprise that in this day and age, lots of people are so keen on pretending that what an algorithm throws together for them is indicative of their own skill. How many kids are actually playing musical instruments, drawing, reading and writing and so on now compared to just 10 years ago? Practically every app on your phone is designed to hijack your brain and make you participate in useless endeavors like doomscrolling instead of something that actually brings you a real sense of accomplishment. Now with AI I truly fear for what sort of state human art is going to be in in just a generation or two. Yes, people can continue to do art while working a "normal" job, but they can't dedicate themselves to it fully. Remember, even the great artists of hundreds of years ago relied on patrons to make a living. Besides that, some creative people really struggle with "normal" jobs, and staying in one eventually crushes them mentally. Not to mention what AI is doing to the world of academia and what kinds of repercussions that's going to cause down the line.
