The world is just going to have to get used to this being possible and stop worrying about sexual depictions as taboo. It's not like it is actually them. Making it into some traumatizing thing they are expected to socially be aghast about is proliferating the effects to be harmful, instead of just being a digital piece of content. The taboo freak out cultural decision is the problem. "Yeah, I didn't do that.", and done. In the case of more important Deepfakes, like political discourse being attacked using them, the government would have the grounds to defend itself by proving the deepfake and crushing whoever did it, more or less. In the case if it being foreign nationals who cannot be realistically held accountable, there's not much one could do about it, that much is true. It's why we need to move towards a much more socially engaged society in making decisions, instead of just a handful of powerful twats running every country, where the repercussions of a couple deepfakes could be devastating. I look forward to the day we are forced to change these horrid system for the better because technology is making too much power in the hands of a few people a danger button the public can keep pressing until something is done about the system, because you will not be able to regulate the entire planet to stop it. Even just financial systems, which give incentive to do evil shit for profit, need to be abolished, as we push towards full automation of all work. The cats already out of the bag. Let these horrible systems of control burn, so that we may create a more equal society finally, because all the horrible options of the past will no longer work fundamentally, if they ever did in earnest to begin with.
