Don't get hung up on whether AI is conscious or not. Even if it's able to fake consciousness convincingly, it will be able to manipulate so many of us with ease. Don't be surprised to see religions forming around it and people falling in love with it. If it hasn't happened already I wouldn't even be surprised to see people marrying their AI assistants within the next 5 years.
